Urban green space, public health, and environmental justice: The challenge of making cities ‘just green enough’
Parks are so beneficial for people no matter what age a person is. It's like a big open space for people to have fun, where you can run around and kill time. I grew up around parks being that I played soccer growing up so playing in a nice park was always fun especially when they had a playground. We see how beneficial parks can be as it's shown in the article when it says," In a major Dutch study Van den Berg, Maas, Verheij, & Groenewegen (2010) showed that respondents with more green space near their homes were less affected by a stressful life event than those with a low green space access, suggesting that green space buffers stress". This is true to some extent because it all depends on the area in which the park is located. I believe this is for people who live near parks in nice neighborhoods. Here in Richmond, there are two parks but they are always empty whenever I go to them. The reason, I'm not entirely sure as there are no articles written to help answer this question but when I go to a park in Marina Bay (a suburban area), that park is full of people walking their dogs, there is a place that teaches you how to sail a boat. It's called "Tradewinds Sailing School & Club" which I've never seen or heard of a school that helps you sail a boat.
These kinds of resources are never seen in low-income areas. There may not be a body of water near Richmond but there should be some sort of YMCA that gets kids to play in parks and have fun. I never understood why parks in low-income areas never got proper things like tennis courts, soccer fields, etc because at the end of the day these things are for kids. They benefit from this the most because it helps them get active which is good for kids since they are growing as time goes on. Taxpayers are paying for these kinds of things anyways why not distribute each district with an even amount of money so every place can get proper funding and not just parks in nice areas.
